Title:            Vicksburg Presentations
Grade Level:        Middle School
Materials:        Computers with power point software, computer projector, disks to save power point presentations, Vicksburg lecture material, scanner

Prior Knowledge;    Students have studied the civil War prior to the battle at Vicksburg.  Students will also have prior experience working with power point.

Objectives:    Students Will Be Able To:
∑ Prepare power point presentations utilizing unique backgrounds, sounds, art, and motion. (Media)
∑ Scan pictures and documents into computer using scanners.
∑ Construct a sequence of events in the battle of Vicksburg.  (Content, Synthesis Level of Analysis)
∑ Examine the experience at Vicksburg through primary (letters, diaries, pictures, etc.)

Pre-instruction        Review events leading to Vicksburg
            Review power point basics
            Review difference between primary and secondary documents

During Instruction    Lecture events at Vicksburg
        Present primary source:  Portraits of The Civil War, by Charles Phillips and Alan Axelrod for class use in presentations
  Explain project:
    In a 5-10 minute presentation, illustrate through primary and secondary documents the experience at Vicksburg for  a)solders b)medical personnel c) civilians d) military leaders

Post Instruction    Review Vicksburg experience
            Review examples of primary and secondary documents

Assessment:    During presentations, I will evaluate the power points using the following rubric:
